The world of erectile dysfunction (ED) has been the subject of increasing interest, with many new drugs and treatments. However, with the increasing incidence of sexual dysfunction, many people have developed a desire to see their doctor and have been hesitant to seek help. The current research focuses on the prevalence of erectile dysfunction and the current treatment guidelines for this condition.
The present study is an investigation of the prevalence of erectile dysfunction and its treatment with the sildenafil citrate in Canada.
Materials and methods
Chinese male subjects
Chinese male subjects were selected from the Department of Urology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The subjects were recruited from a male population who has erectile dysfunction and has not responded to other therapies. The subjects were treated with sildenafil citrate (Viagra®; Pfizer, New York, USA) 100 mg once daily for 12 weeks. After taking the tablets, the subjects were observed for the first and third months and then continued for 4 months.
Results
A total of 799 men participated in the study. The average age was 50 years old. The average duration of treatment was 3.5 years. The most common sexual disorders were impotence (33.3%), followed by erectile dysfunction (18.8%), and premature ejaculation (19.9%). The prevalence of erectile dysfunction and its treatment with sildenafil citrate was high. There were also significant differences in the prevalence of the various disorders.
Conclusions
The prevalence of erectile dysfunction and its treatment with sildenafil citrate in Canada is low and low, respectively. The current prevalence of erectile dysfunction and its treatment with sildenafil citrate is low, and this is a problem that needs to be addressed.
